The upcoming "budget" smartphone Apple iPhone SE 4 will feature a display that lags behind current devices by several generations. In fact, Apple has decided to reuse the OLED panel from the iPhone 13. To further cut production costs, the company will also reduce the display's specifications.

Samsung and BOE competed for the right to supply displays for the future smartphone. The Chinese company emerged victorious, agreeing to supply OLED panels to Apple at a price of $25. Samsung could not accept such terms, likely due to slim margins. BOE will supply 20 million units of OLED panels. LG will be added as a second display supplier for the iPhone SE 4. European display manufacturer Tianma also attempted to become a supplier for the iPhone SE 4 panels, but it is unlikely they will be included in the supply chain.

It’s noted that Apple will lower the display specifications to reduce production costs for the iPhone SE 4. This may mean that in addition to the absence of ProMotion support, the "budget" iPhone's screen could also provide less accurate color reproduction and have lower overall brightness.

Earlier reports indicated that mass production of the affordable model would start in October, but the actual launch is likely to take place in early 2025. The price is still unknown.
