The Grille drone from the German company Avilus looks big and menacing, resembling retro-futuristic fantasies about aircraft of the Second World War. However, its purpose is humanitarian - it is a drone evacuator presented at the ILA Berlin aerospace exhibition.
The company positions its heavy multi-copter as a fast savior of human life. Grille is designed for transporting the wounded or useful cargo. Fast aid to the wounded increases their chances of survival and rehabilitation.
The complex includes the drone itself, a mobile operations center, a trailer for transportation and servicing TROL, along with the MEDC4I digital platform. The system is housed in a six-meter container, and two soldiers can deploy it in 15 minutes.
The drone can carry up to 135 kg of cargo, with a maximum takeoff weight of 695 kg. An electric motor of 240 kW allows it to reach a cruising speed of 86 km/h at a height of up to 2.1 km and a flight range of up to 51 km.
As one of the safety systems, a ballistic parachute is provided. Redundancy of the vehicle's systems increases reliability. The drone is automatically controlled and operated via satellite, and inertial navigation is also provided for autopiloting. The UAV is equipped with instruments for monitoring and ensuring vital signs. Data on the condition of the wounded is transmitted to operators - rescuers and mission commanders. Video communication with the patient is possible. The internal device insert is replaceable, and for hygiene purposes can be replaced after a mission.
Avilus specifically developed the system as a military-medical one and offers it for tasks such as tactical evacuation of the wounded, transportation between medical facilities, medical supply and assistance in high-risk areas.
