The global modification of Fallout: Vault 13 has been put on hold for the "well-being of the project participants." Later, the community or the authors themselves may continue if they choose to.

Fallout: Vault 13 has been in development since 2021 but gained widespread attention following the release of its demo in August this year. It was intended to feature five open-world zones, a "completely updated leveling system," voice acting, a full roster of original Fallout quests and characters, along with new content.

However, despite the excitement generated by the demo, the development team could not proceed "due to a combination of factors." In a statement released on social media, the project's founder and co-leader Culinwin explains the reasons.

"After much thought and discussion, we decided to officially suspend the development of Fallout: Vault 13. This was not an easy decision, but we believe it is the right step at this stage of our journey."

In the following note, Culinwin cited burnout, staffing issues, and the well-being of the participants among the reasons.

"Fallout: Vault 13 was halted due to a combination of factors, including burnout, difficulties in recruiting team members with the necessary skills, and changes in the personal lives of team members. There was no opposition from Bethesda. Undoubtedly, this was an ambitious project created by volunteers with limited resources. The decision was made to prioritize the well-being of the project members."

Although Fallout: Vault 13 will no longer be developed by the current team, the mod content in its current form will be released as a build on NexusMods "in the coming weeks" for those who wish to continue working on it in the future. Additionally, the previously released demo will remain available for download.

"While this may mean the end of active development, it is not the end of our shared journey. Ultimately, we plan to release a retrospective that will look back on everything we have achieved with Fallout: Vault 13, highlighting accomplishments, lessons learned, and the passion that drove this project

Thank you once again for being a part of this incredible experience. Your support means a lot to us, and I look forward to seeing the community continue with Fallout: Vault 13."

In addition to Fallout: Vault 13, other major mods like Fallout: London and Fallout: Nuevo Mexico (for New Vegas) remain in development. The creators of the former aim to establish a game studio to cover costs, while the latter recently resurfaced with a new trailer.
