The most popular messenger in Ukraine, Rakuten Viber, has announced the launch of a new feature called "Chat Summary," which will provide a summary of unread messages in a group chat upon request (whether it's parental or household). It is based on the ChatGPT technology and is currently being tested among 10% of iOS and Android users in Ukraine, the USA, Japan, Bulgaria, Poland, and the Philippines.
According to the developers' idea, the new feature will help many Ukrainians save a lot of time. It analyzes the missed correspondence (from 5 to 100 unread messages) and provides a brief summary of everything discussed in the form of a resume. A corresponding dialog box with a proposal to generate a dialogue summary will automatically appear when opening a group chat with five or more unread messages.
In theory, the tool will allow not to miss anything important, without spending a lot of time rereading empty talk and arguments, which remain an unchanged attribute of all group chats. As for the practice, it needs to be tested.
The new function supports Ukrainian and over 50 other languages. Currently, AI summaries are only available for group chats as the most popular communication format among Rakuten Viber users - two-thirds in Ukraine communicate in group chats at least monthly, according to internal statistics.
On the eve, Rakuten Viber announced the appointment of the first director in Ukraine - former media manager in the IT business at AIN.UA, Ilya Boshnyakov.
