Typically, armored vehicles are heavy transports with far from optimal performance figures. However, U.S. Armor Group is working to change the perception of such vehicles by introducing the "fastest armored vehicle in the world." It is based on the Lucid Air Sapphire and aims to dispel "prejudices about armored luxury."
This is an electric vehicle equipped with three motors that produce a combined power of 1234 hp (920 kW). The car features an all-wheel drive system. The standard model accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 96 km/h) in 1.89 seconds, can reach a top speed of 330 km/h, and boasts a range of 687 km (according to EPA standards).
Building on this powerful foundation, U.S. Armor Group has installed lightweight ballistic windows that can withstand shots from a .44 Magnum (a high-powered revolver cartridge with a bullet diameter of 10.9 mm). The vehicle also incorporates lightweight composite armor that is "10 times stronger than ballistic steel but 5 times lighter."
As a result, the armor adds just 175 kg of weight, roughly equivalent to two passengers. Thus, the enhanced protection should not significantly affect the vehicle's performance metrics. The company stated that the armored version can still achieve a top speed of over 322 km/h.
In addition to physical armor, the vehicle is equipped with an "impervious internet/Wi-Fi security package" designed to protect data from hacking attempts. The company also mentioned that the model features "advanced technology that continuously scans for nearby threats during transport, gathering information from over a million sources, including local police and fire scanners."
The price for the armored version starts at $475,000, nearly double that of the Air Sapphire. However, clients can opt for more robust armor to protect against grenades, explosive devices, and high-caliber rifles. Customers can also order door handles with electric discharge, pepper spray dispensers, and concealed weapon ports.
