Linus Torvalds, the creator of the Linux kernel, is not impressed by the hype surrounding artificial intelligence. In his view, current AI technologies are "90% marketing and only 10% actual reality." He expressed this during an interview at the Open Source summit in Vienna.

The developer referred to modern generative AI services as an intriguing evolution of machine learning technologies, which will ultimately transform the world. At the same time, he expressed frustration with the "hype cycle" that fuels too many AI-related initiatives and leads to incredibly high market valuations for companies like Nvidia.
Torvalds dislikes the hype cycle so much that he doesn't even want to engage with it. Essentially, he ignores everything related to artificial intelligence, although he acknowledges that the situation could change drastically in a few years.
According to Torvalds, in five years, generative algorithms and machine learning technologies will become much more useful and interesting. It will then be possible for the entire world to understand how AI can be effectively utilized and what daily tasks it can "accelerate."
Torvalds agreed that ChatGPT and similar services are excellent demonstrations of technology, already being employed in various fields for different tasks, such as graphic design. "But I really hate the hype cycle," he emphasizes.
