A feature called Distraction Control will enable users to remove unwanted elements from web pages with a single touch — it is currently available in the latest beta versions of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia for developers.
With an animation reminiscent of the power of the Infinity Gauntlet, intrusive ads, cookie banners, and even specific sections of a website can vanish in mere seconds. At the same time, Apple clarifies that this is not a full-fledged ad blocker, and hidden elements will reappear over time. Additionally, the Distraction Control feature does not synchronize across devices.
MacRumors published a video demonstrating how Distraction Control works in practice. To activate it, users essentially need to press the same button that activates the reading mode.
If Apple does not make any last-minute changes, the new feature will be part of the final release of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 — likely next month.
Meanwhile, Apple's artificial intelligence features are expected to be released later.
