Dragon Age 4 will feature what seems to be the largest city in the franchise's history — Minrathous, the capital of the Tevinter Empire, which players will explore for the first time.
The developers revealed that they drew inspiration from previous references to Minrathous within the series. Specifically, in Dragon Age: Inquisition, the character Dorian compared Orlais, one of the continent of Thedas's largest cities, to Minrathous, highlighting the latter's significantly larger scale. This comparison inspired the Bioware team to create an epic city that would exceed fans' expectations.
The game's creators set an ambitious goal — to bring to life an image of Minrathous that would impress even the most discerning players. They understood that they could not surpass the boldest fantasies of the fans, but they aimed to come as close as possible to their visions.
Minrathous is depicted in the game as a bustling city that is constantly expanding. Players will experience both its dark alleys and its luxurious districts. The developers designed the city to be awe-inspiring at every turn, paying special attention to details that highlight the grandeur of Minrathous.
One of the challenges in development was the city's verticality. To prevent players from getting lost in the streets of Minrathous, the developers added architectural landmarks and unique elements to aid navigation while emphasizing the city's density.
According to the developers, the daily life of an average citizen of Minrathous appears more captivating than that of the Queen of Orlais, at least in terms of the scale of what can be seen. Players will be able to appreciate the size of the city and its impressive design while exploring various locations and observing the lives of its inhabitants.
