The video game Black Myth: Wukong from the Chinese studio Game Science has achieved remarkable commercial success, according to a new report from Video Game Insights.
According to the report, the game has earned $879 million solely on the Steam platform. The average playtime for each user is nearly 32 hours. Experts estimate the total number of copies sold at 18 million.

Statistics from SteamDB highlight a record number of concurrent players — 2.4 million people two weeks ago. The game attracts over one million active users daily, with peak activity on weekends.
China remains the primary market for Black Myth: Wukong. At the time of the game's launch, 80% of sales came from this country. This figure currently stands at 76%.
The game's success was not unexpected. Even before its release, Black Myth: Wukong displayed strong preorder figures. In the first three days after launch, the game generated over $10 million.
Black Myth: Wukong is a Chinese action RPG inspired by the classic Chinese novel "Journey to the West," telling the story of the Monkey King's quest for relics following the events of the book. The game received "generally favorable" reviews from critics, according to the review aggregator Metacritic, with an average score of 81 out of 100.
The game was released on August 20, 2024, for PC (Steam, Epic Games) and PlayStation 5. An Xbox Series X|S version has not been announced yet. However, the story of the Monkey King is not over, as rumors suggest that developers are preparing two DLCs.
