OpenAI has begun testing a standalone ChatGPT application for Windows. Currently, only users of the paid version of the service can access it.
Similar to the Mac version, the ChatGPT application for Windows allows users to ask questions to the AI-based chatbot in a dedicated window that can remain open alongside other applications. Users can quickly access the app using the shortcut Alt + Space.
The application also enables users to upload files and images to ChatGPT and has access to OpenAI's o1 model, which is capable of "reasoning." However, this app still lacks some features, such as an advanced voice mode.
Today, ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, Team, and Edu users can start testing an early version of the Windows desktop app.

At the moment, only ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, Team, and Edu subscribers can use the ChatGPT application for Windows. However, OpenAI has stated that it plans to make it available to everyone later this year.
Soon after launching its ChatGPT application for Mac in June, OpenAI identified a security vulnerability that stored conversations in plain text. Since then, OpenAI has addressed the issue and now encrypts locally stored data.
The ChatGPT application for Windows is available for download from the Microsoft Store.
