The seventh big patch of Baldur's Gate 3 is approaching, which will bring the long-awaited Baldur's Gate 3 Toolkit mod editor to PC. Some modders have already been able to use them, and they really liked it.

Larian Studios has revealed what things in the game can be created using the new tool. There are also reviews from modders who tested its closed alpha version. The studio previously noted that some radical changes to the scenario and nude modifications will not be officially supported, but they can still be created without using the official tool:

  • Items - weapons, armor components for crafting, and more
  • Cosmetic changes - hair, beards, and other textures and models
  • Classes and subclasses - creating new and modifying existing ones, changing properties, skills, and characteristics
  • Races - they can be created and edited, changing appearance, abilities, and characteristics
  • Cube skins - can be reworked and changed in appearance
  • Interface - expanding capabilities and changing design
  • Various gameplay changes that Larian calls "quality of life improvements"

One of the modders, TechRoot, the creator of the popular Faerun Colors mod, notes that so far he had to create the mod entirely in code. However, the official toolkit has changed that.

"Now the toolkit allows me to choose exactly the color I want, where I want it, and see thousands of other colors in the game that I haven't even thought of. I no longer write, now I draw. Tasks that were once tedious, like creating icons and registering them in the game, are now done in easily understandable and convenient menus."

Another modder, LostSoul, notes that he was able to create his first mod an hour after installing the editor: "I was grateful to Larian for allowing mod authors to learn and provide feedback. When you really try to learn and create a mod, you can determine where improvements are needed most."

The seventh patch will be released in September, and the mod editor will only be available for use on PC. Mod created later can be exported to console versions of Baldur's Gate 3.
