Audi has prepared to launch several new electric models in the E-tron lineup. This time, fans of the brand are being offered not crossovers, but electric versions of the popular midsize sedan A6 and its sporty variant, the S6.
Audi first unveiled the A6 E-tron concept at the Auto Shanghai auto show in 2021. The production version closely resembles the original concept. The front features slim headlights with adaptive matrix LEDs (available only outside the US) and a grille with a fish-scale-like texture surrounded by a dark mask. The rear of the vehicle includes digital OLED panels for the taillights, which can serve as a display for safety communications. Depending on the market, the car may come with either full-sized side mirrors or sleek virtual mirrors, achieving a low drag coefficient of 0.21 in the latter case.
The vehicle's interior is very similar to the new Q6 E-tron. It features three displays that create a "digital scene," including a 10.9-inch display for the front passenger equipped with a privacy screen. The company also offers a heads-up display for the driver.
Audi has developed multiple versions of its electric sedans. Known models include a rear-wheel-drive A6 E-tron in a Sportback body, an all-wheel-drive variant also in Sportback form, and the sporty S6 Sportback. There will also be an A6 E-tron Avant available in station wagon form. Audi claims that the car's range on a single charge exceeds 700 km.
The Audi A6 E-tron is based on the new 800-volt Volkswagen Premium Platform Electric (PPE), which is also utilized in the Audi Q6 E-tron and Porsche Macan EV. According to Audi, all A6 E-tron versions come equipped with 100 kWh batteries (94.4 kWh available for use) and support fast charging at 270 kW. This allows the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes.
The fastest version, the S6 E-tron, can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds with the "Launch Control" traction control system. The maximum power of the S6 stands at 543 hp, with a top speed of 240 km/h.
The new Audi A6 E-tron electric vehicle will go on sale in Europe in September of this year.
