The upcoming Apple iPhone 16 lineup will feature an improved camera, according to rumors coming from Asia.

It is noted that the main camera of the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be based on an improved custom 48-megapixel Sony IMX903 sensor. At the same time, the iPhone 16 Pro will use the same 48-megapixel Sony IMX803 sensor found in current iPhone 15 Pro models.

Rumors suggest that the custom Sony IMX903 sensor in the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have advanced features such as a multi-layered design, a 14-bit analog-digital converter, and digital gain control. All of this will improve performance and image processing, enhancing dynamic range and noise control.

The leak source also claims that the current iPhone 16 Pro models will have an updated ultra-wide camera with a 48-megapixel sensor. This will allow for capturing more light and better photos when shooting at 0.5x, especially in low-light conditions. The ultra-wide module on current iPhone 15 Pro models has 12 megapixels. It is likely that both iPhone 16 Pro models will be able to capture 48-megapixel ProRAW photos in Ultra Wide mode.

It is expected that in 2025, the iPhone 17 Pro lineup will complete the transition to 48-megapixel rear cameras. This includes equipping the telephoto module with a 48-megapixel sensor, currently having a 12-megapixel sensor in iPhone 15 Pro models.
