The disastrous launch of Concord continues to generate intriguing stories. With the game's closure, Sony PlayStation has incurred significant losses.
Before its shutdown, the shooter managed to sell 30,000 copies and was reportedly valued at $200 million. However, this might be a rather lenient estimate. According to new information from an insider, the actual production cost of Concord was $400 million. This figure far exceeds that of mega-hits like God of War Ragnarok and The Last of Us Part 2.
As former IGN journalist and blogger Colin Moriarty explains, Concord was regarded as "the future of PlayStation." Colin obtained updated details from a reliable source who shared more about the game's budget.
“By the time the game reached alpha status, they had already spent $200 million on it.”
At the project’s completion, its budget effectively doubled. Not all of the $400 million came from PlayStation, but the gaming giant likely invested a substantial additional amount. According to the journalist's estimates, this represents the largest loss for Sony PlayStation's division in recent years.
I spoke extensively with someone who worked on Concord, and it's so much worse than you think.
It was internally referred to as «The Future of PlayStation» with Star Wars-like potential, and a dev culture of «toxic positivity» halted any negative feedback.

Moriarty states that Concord was in dire straits as of last year, which led to additional expenses despite its already massive budget. It has been reported that the studio suffered from a culture of "toxic positivity" and dismissed any fair negative feedback. Following the failure of Concord, Firewalk Studios is bracing for the worst. The shooter’s director recently resigned, and other layoffs or even the studio's closure may be in the pipeline.
