Compact computers are often placed in areas with limited workspace. However, setting up the Apple Mac mini M4 can be challenging despite its smaller size.
To turn the new Mac mini on or off using the hardware button, it will need to be lifted or moved if it is in a vertical position. This can be quite inconvenient, even when the computer is simply on a desk, and even more so in less traditional locations.
While it’s clear that the button isn’t used frequently, its positioning is not ideal for users. A narrow horizontal or vertical space could render this action nearly impossible if there’s no room to move the device.
The button is located not on the round base of the case but on a higher plane in one of the corners. However, this does not make it any easier to use without lifting the Mac mini. Considering this arrangement, disconnecting the power cable might be a more convenient option for an emergency reboot (provided the back is accessible).
Previously, the power button on the Mac mini was situated in the right rear corner of the device, from a frontal view—also not the most convenient spot, but still more accessible. Apple’s affection for the bottoms of their devices is also evident in the Magic Mouse, which retained its charging port on the underside.
