In the second quarter of 2024, the total number of tablet shipments worldwide reached 34.4 million units. This represents a 22.1% increase compared to the same period last year. Current shipment levels are comparable to those prior to the coronavirus pandemic. This is a clear indication that the demand for tablets has successfully rebounded.
Apple remains the market leader, accounting for more than a third of tablet shipments. In the second quarter, the Cupertino-based company sold 12.3 million tablets, which gives it a market share of 35.8%. The release of new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air and iPad Pro models has helped Apple increase its global market presence. China was the only exception, as strong competition from local brands Huawei and Xiaomi adversely affected the American company.
Samsung secured second place with 6.9 million shipments in this period, capturing a 20.1% market share. Lenovo came in third with 2.5 million shipments and a 7.3% market share. Huawei shipped 2.3 million tablets, achieving a 6.8% market share due to high demand for its latest MatePad series devices.
Xiaomi was the fifth-largest tablet supplier, with 2 million shipments and a 5.8% market share. The Chinese company boasts the highest year-on-year growth at 94.7%, with significant increases in several European markets.
