The company ASRock presents a wide portfolio of Intel Z890 and AMD X870 motherboards at Computex 2024. Interestingly, Intel has temporarily prohibited its partners from advertising the new boards as Z890, although they are already available. One of the new boards is Taichi Aqua - ASRock announced the merging of the Aqua line with Taichi.
The Aqua boards are designed for liquid cooling, but it is not obligatory. There are relatively few of these boards, and they are not necessary for the majority of users.
The board is equipped with a 33-phase power supply, two PCIe x16 slots, two DDR5 DIMM slots, and supports up to six M.2 slots. The board could serve as the foundation for an improvised data server, but it also serves as an excellent USB hub.
This board has not two or three, but ten USB Type-C connectors, with not a single Type-A connector (standard USB) on it. Of course, the board will still have a connector for connecting Type-A on the front panel of the computer, but not on the motherboard itself.
It is unclear whether ASRock will include adapters to Type-A with the board, but it seems to be the first step towards phasing out the old connector. Almost all peripherals can now be purchased with a USB Type-C option, so this may be justified.
