Last month, YouTube TV added support for the Multiview feature to its iOS app. And now the corresponding feature becomes available on the Android platform.
YouTube TV introduced a preview version of Multiview in March 2023. Initially, this feature worked on smart TVs and streaming devices. Subsequently, availability gradually expanded. This feature allows YouTube TV users to watch multiple streams simultaneously on one display, for example, multiple sporting events. The feature is primarily limited to sports content.
Now this multi-stream grid view is appearing on Android smartphones and tablets for those users who have subscribed to YouTube TV. To use the feature, you need to install YouTube TV version 8.17 for Android. You can watch up to four pre-selected live streams simultaneously.
Multiview can work on any device and does not require "powerful hardware" as the intensive processing is done on YouTube servers. In fact, the user's device "sees" only one live channel (instead of two to four separate ones).
On Android, users can find Multiview on the Home tab. After launching, you need to tap on the desired stream to hear its audio. This stream will also receive a white border for the user to know which audio they are hearing.
