Former Sony chief Shawn Layden has addressed the backlash from fans regarding the announcement of the game Ghost of Yotei, the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima.
The primary reason for gamers' dissatisfaction stems from the introduction of a female character as the lead protagonist, as well as the choice of actress for this role.
Fans of the previous installment, which featured Jin Sakai as the main character, expressed their disappointment on social media. In response to the criticism, Shawn Layden voiced his stance:
“It’s a game. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. In fact, why not create the game you want yourself?”
Layden pointed out that the developers are passionate about their story and are eager to share it. However, his statement has sparked debate among players. Some believe that creators should heed the audience's desires.
1 It's a game. An entertainment. A story a team of creators believes in. They want to make this.
2 it's a game. If you don't like it, don't buy it. In fact, why not make the game you want yourself?

Fans' concerns are also linked to the social media activity of actress Erika Ishii and her outspoken "woke" stance. She has blocked prominent figures who haven't even spoken out against her, raising worries about possible "progressive" content in Ghost of Yotei.
Commentators are drawing comparisons to the game Concord, which failed due to similar issues. While it is unlikely that Ghost of Yotei will suffer the same fate, this controversy may adversely impact its reception.
