It seems that GTA 6 will be a true heist - on our wallets.
Fans of the Grand Theft Auto series are eagerly awaiting new information about GTA 6 from Rockstar Games. The game is set to launch in the fall of 2025, but many are curious about its price. Some speculate that the game could cost $150, which is double the standard price of AAA titles at $69.99.
Michael Douse, the publishing director at Larian Studios, the developer behind Baldur's Gate 3, also believes that GTA 6 will be more expensive than other games. He thinks Rockstar might initiate a new trend in pricing.
In a post on social media platform X, Douse criticized Ubisoft's pricing strategy for Star Wars Outlaws. He labeled the approach as artificial, noting that the company offers multiple editions of the game at varying prices.
I don't love the artificiality of pricing structures post retail. Use the inflated base price to upsell a subscription, and use vague content promises to inflate ultimate editions to make the base price look better. It all seems a bit dangerous & disconnected from the community. pic.twitter.com/wPmwDM846z

"Almost all games should cost more due to rising development costs and inflation. However, achieving this should be attributed to quality and communication, rather than promises of extra content. Everyone is waiting for GTA 6 to set this precedent," noted Douse.
Almost all games should cost more at a base level because the cost of making them (inflation, for one) is outpacing pricing trends. But I don't think we'll get there with DLC promises so much as quality & communication. Everyone's just waiting for GTA6 to do it lol.

Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company, commented on pricing issues in a 2024 interview:
"We are focused on providing more value than what we charge. This is our primary principle. When we set a price, we want to ensure it’s good news for the consumer; that the experience significantly exceeds expectations in terms of cost. This is our goal."
It’s worth noting that GTA 6 fans have spotted a hint at the game's exact release date in a promotional video from Rockstar.
