During the Halo World Championship, the developers at 343 Industries announced a rebranding to Halo Studios, along with plans to develop several new games. The company is shifting from its proprietary Slipspace engine to Unreal Engine 5 for all future Halo franchise projects.

Halo Studios showcased a video demonstration of Project Foundry, highlighting the potential of Unreal Engine. The clip featured new designs for Master Chief and Covenant elite fighters, along with three distinct biomes.

The art director of Halo Studios, Chris Matthews, explained the rationale behind the transition to the new engine:

“Some components of Slipspace are nearly 25 years old. While 343 Industries has continually improved it, Unreal has features that Epic has developed over a long time. Reproducing those functionalities in Slipspace would require enormous resources and time.”

The company plans to expand its workforce and create several teams to simultaneously work on various projects using a centralized UE5 pipeline. CEO Pierre Hintze did not disclose specific projects or timelines, merely noting that they will be ready "when they are ready."

Halo Studios' leadership includes CEO Pierre Hintze, General Manager Brian Koski, and Chief Operating Officer Elizabeth Van Vick. They took charge of the studio following the departure of former General Manager Bonnie Ross in 2022.
