As is often the case with Google Pixel smartphones, almost everything is known about them ahead of the announcement. Recently, the first real-life shot of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and its promotional material surfaced.
Someone spotted the Pixel 9 Pro Fold at a Starbucks in Taiwan and took a discreet photo of the smartphone. The design of the device in the photo seems to match the latest leaked renders. In the picture, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is fitted with an official Google case that features the “G” logo on the back. While the smartphone itself appears to be in Obsidian (black), the case is in Porcelain (white).
The case levels the camera bump on the back and makes the phone more convenient to use on a flat surface. It's difficult to determine how thick the case is, but even with it, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold seems thinner than its predecessor.
Earlier, an official promotional video for the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold was released. The advertisement, in German, reveals several new details.
One of the biggest criticisms of the original Pixel Fold was that it didn’t unfold completely. It seems that this time Google highlights in the video that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is entirely flat. It also appears to have a new hinge. The Pixel Fold had a flat connection, but the Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a slightly larger, rounded one.
The video also showcases both colors of the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Obsidian and Porcelain. There is a lot of discussion in the clip about the software, particularly regarding Gemini. The Pixel 9 smartphone family is expected to be officially unveiled at the Made by Google 2024 event, which will take place on August 13.
