Valve has launched a new feature called "Family Groups" in Steam, which allows families to share games, manage parental controls, and approve game purchase requests together.

This new feature will replace the Steam Family Library and Family Mode.

Family Groups enable family members to play different games from a shared library at the same time. For instance, while one user is playing Balatro, another family member can enjoy Arranger at the same time. However, if multiple people want to start the same game simultaneously, additional copies will need to be purchased separately. A significant advantage of this new system is the ability to play co-op games offline.

Valve has set a limit on the number of members in a family group — "up to six close relatives." Each family member will have their own saves and achievements in games. Adult users can leave the family group freely, but rejoining will only be possible after a year. Only adults or Steam support can remove children from the group.

More information about Family Groups can be read on a separate page in Steam.

The company plans to gradually phase out the old Family Sharing system. Users still utilizing it are encouraged to transition to the new "Family Group" feature. To do this, simply update the Steam client to the latest version.

Along with the implementation of Family Groups, Valve has released a series of other updates for its client. Among them is a revamped screenshot manager that provides users with more convenient tools for managing their captured screenshots.
