Western journalists have shared their initial impressions of Dragon Age: The Veilguard after six hours of gameplay. Reviewers hailed the new RPG from BioWare as one of the best games of the year and a significant comeback for the studio.
Many are comparing the impact of The Veilguard to that of Mass Effect 2. The game blends RPG elements with broad accessibility for players. Critics believe that BioWare has the potential to reclaim its status among top RPG developers, alongside Larian Studios.
The character editor in The Veilguard impresses with its variety. Players can customize over 40 skin tones, 30 face types, 90 hairstyles, and numerous other attributes. In addition to appearance, players must choose a faction that grants specific bonuses to their character.
The gameplay of The Veilguard is significantly different from previous installments in the series. The gameplay has become more dynamic, and the pacing has quickened. The combat system has evolved compared to Dragon Age: Inquisition. Battles are now faster and more engaging, requiring players to take active actions and skillfully utilize their abilities.
Journalists describe the quests in the game as intricately crafted, complete with stunning cinematic sequences. The missions are filled with engaging dialogue, in line with BioWare's best traditions. The game world feels vibrant, and interactions with NPCs are natural.
In The Veilguard, there are three available classes: warrior, mage, and rogue. The rogue stood out as the most interesting class due to its high mobility. The warrior ranked second, while the mage was considered the least engaging due to a slower-paced gameplay experience.
The game features diverse and rich locations, though they are not excessively large. While the world isn’t entirely open, the zones are spacious enough to contain hidden areas and secrets. Some reviewers pointed out a lack of side activities.
Regarding the technical aspects, journalists reported no performance issues on high-end PCs (for example, with the GeForce RTX 4080). We have published a separate article covering the system requirements for the game.
Remember, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is set to release on October 31 for PC (Steam, Epic Games), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
