Hyundai has officially unveiled a new subcompact electric A-class car called INSTER. This is a relatively affordable urban model, which is the result of the evolution of the gasoline model CASPER, sold in South Korea since 2021.

Hyundai called this model "a new standard for popularizing electric vehicles" and plans to sell the electric version outside South Korea. It will appear in Europe with a starting price below €25,000.

By removing the combustion system components in the original Casper car, Hyundai changed the design and construction of the INSTER. This allowed for an expansion of the wheelbase and an increase in the body to increase interior space. As a result, Hyundai has created a car that fills a niche in the market between traditional subcompact city cars of class A and larger compact cars of class B.

The compact size of the new Hyundai INSTER makes it ideal for city driving and parking, which are two key factors for driving in Europe. The car has a length of 3825 mm, a width of 1610 mm, a height of 1575 mm, and a wheelbase of 2580 mm. The trunk volume is 280 liters, and folding the rear seats can increase it to 351 liters.

The INSTER comes standard with a 42 kW-h battery, but customers can also choose the Long-Range version with a 49 kW-h battery. Both versions use a single electric motor. The Standard version has a 71.1 kW motor, a top speed of 140 km/h, and a range of over 300 km (WLTP standard). In the Long-Range version, the motor power is slightly higher (84.5 kW), and the range with 15-inch wheels is 355 km. The maximum speed is increased to 150 km/h.

The standard onboard charger with an 11 kW power allows you to charge the standard version in 4 hours, while the Long-Range version will take an additional 35 minutes. When using fast charging stations with 120 kW power, it will take 30 minutes to restore the energy level from 10% to 80%.

Hyundai has promised to provide more details about the INSTER electric car closer to its market release. The car will go on sale in Korea this summer, followed by deliveries to the markets of Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region.
