The Chinese manufacturer Intellifusion has introduced the DeepEyes artificial intelligence processors with a claimed performance of 48 TOPS, costing 1000 yuan, or approximately $140. The use of an older 14nm technology process and, likely, ASIC technology, is a way for China to bypass sanctions and remain competitive in the AI market. The chips use RISC-V and "independent home technology."
The Deep Eyes H1 2024 device uses the DeepEdge10Max processor to achieve 48 TOPS training performance. Deep Eyes H2 2024 features the DeepEdge10Pro chip with 24 TOPS, and the Deep Eyes 2025 H1 aims to increase performance to 96 TOPS thanks to DeepEdge10Ultra. The company claims to offer 90% cheaper AI computing, covering 90% of possible scenarios.
To meet the requirements set by Microsoft for AI-powered PCs, computers must have at least 40 TOPS of NPU performance. Therefore, Intellifusion processors seem suitable for AI workloads. For comparison, Snapdragon's X Elite processors will receive 40 TOPS.
As noted by Dr. Chen Nin, the head of Intellifusion, in the next three years, 80% of companies worldwide will be using large AI models. The cost of training a large model can amount to tens of millions (yuan?), and few companies can afford it at existing prices. In terms of AI adoption by companies, this seems like a very bold statement.
