At the 2024 Paris Auto Show, BYD officially unveiled the new electric vehicle Sealion 7 for the European market. Previously, this crossover was only available in China.
Sealion 7 is the first model built on the BYD 3.0 Evo electric platform. It promises enhanced efficiency and performance, particularly due to the "12 in 1" electric drive system. The car (at least the Chinese version) offers two battery options: with capacities of 72 kWh and 81 kWh. The larger battery provides a range of 610 km according to the CLTC cycle. The automaker's European website lists the battery capacity as "up to 91.3 kWh."
Fast charging reaches a power of 230 kW, allowing the battery to be recharged from 10% to 80% in 25 minutes. The all-wheel-drive version with two motors accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, with a top speed of 215 km/h.
The interior features a minimalist design. Meanwhile, the BYD Sealion 7 is equipped with a large 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen. The dimensions of the Sealion 7 are 4830 mm in length, 1925 mm in width, and 1620 mm in height, making it comparable in size to the Tesla Model Y.
It is expected that the Sealion 7 will hit the European roads by the end of this year. While official European prices have not been announced, the starting price in China is 189,800 yuan (approximately €24,040).
At the 2024 Paris Auto Show, BYD also showcased the U8, a rugged SUV from its luxury sub-brand Yangwang, and the BYD Seal sedan. Both of these vehicles are also entering the European market and making their debut in France. Other models presented include the Dolphin, Atto 3, and Seal U.
BYD's rapid expansion in Europe is part of a larger global strategy for the company. Currently, its vehicles are available in 95 countries and regions worldwide. In September 2024, BYD sold 419,426 vehicles (electric and hybrids), which is a 45.91% increase compared to last year. Of these, 33,012 were sold overseas, marking a 17.74% increase over the previous year.
