Bethesda has released a new update for Fallout 4 called the Next Gen Update 2. In this update, the company added some graphics settings for PS5 and Xbox Series X that were previously missing. However, it is somewhat alarming that the developers "strongly recommend" sticking to the default settings anyway.

In the patch notes for this Fallout 4 update, it is stated that "thanks to your feedback, we were able to implement the ability to control the accuracy and performance of your graphics." However, Bethesda does not recommend using the new available settings:

"We highly recommend that you launch with the default settings, but now you can change your settings to better suit your gameplay style and display."

Perhaps Bethesda is simply trying to encourage users to work with the most optimal settings. However, the wording used is confusing when the developer adds new settings that the community was very eager to see.

The updated frame rate target parameters offer options of 30, 40, and 60 frames per second, with 60 fps being the standard value. However, "it is important to note that to select 40, your display must support 120Hz."

There are also new priority modes in the form of visual quality mode and performance mode. The performance mode is the default choice. Bethesda offers users the option to choose between these modes, "trying to maintain the frame rate target."

The game will try to maintain the frame rate target, which the developers "strongly recommend" not to change. This wording is also not very suitable for an update called Next Gen Update 2, which is a continuation of the fix announced over two years ago.

"If you have chosen a frame rate target of 60, we recommend selecting performance," clarifies Bethesda. "Both modes can dynamically adjust the internal resolution when scenes or actions become more demanding."
