All on AI. Ukraine is the second in the number of AI companies among Central and Eastern European countries

The investment group Roosh, the largest Ukrainian AI community AI HOUSE, and the Ministry of Digital Transformation analyzed the artificial intelligence ecosystem of Ukraine — compiling the main points from the report.

• Over the past 10 years, the number of AI/ML specialists in Ukraine has grown 5 times and currently reaches 5,200 people.
• The most common professions among specialists are Data Scientists and ML Engineers, accounting for 63% of all industry specialists (these areas offer the highest salaries among all IT specialties in the country).
• In the AI/ML industry of Ukraine, specialists aged 21 to 25 are most common.

• The number of IT companies has doubled in the last 10 years, and the number of companies working in the field of artificial intelligence reached 243 in 2023 (they attracted over $10.8 million in venture investments).
• Since 2019, two Ukrainian AI companies have become unicorns (Grammarly and People.ai). The three largest startups are valued at over $14.5 billion.
• In general, Ukraine ranks second in the number of AI companies among Central and Eastern European countries (34 have been registered in just the last 4 years).
• Compared to the rest of Europe, Ukraine has a higher concentration of AI startups in marketing, gaming, and business software.

• 55% of Ukrainian AI companies' offices are located in Kyiv, where the largest talent pool is concentrated — 47.5%.

• Since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, the number of defense tech startups using AI solutions has significantly increased.
