Seven years ago, everyone was amazed by the 400 GB microSD card from SanDisk, and now Western Digital is demonstrating a full-size SD card ten times larger. The new SD card SanDisk Extreme Pro SDUC 4 TB is designed for cameras and laptops, and will be available in 2025.

Western Digital has introduced a 4 TB SD card at the NAB exhibition this week. It complies with the Secure Digital Ultra Capacity (SDUC) standard, which supports up to 128 TB. The card uses the Ultra High Speed-I (UHS-I) interface and corresponds to speed class 10, therefore supporting a minimum speed of 10 MB/s and a maximum data transfer speed of 104 MB/s when operating in UHS104 (SDR104) mode. The SD card also corresponds to video speed class V30 and supports a minimum sequential write speed of 30 MB/s, which is considered sufficient for recording 8K video.

Currently, Western Digital does not disclose what the use of NAND in the SanDisk Extreme Pro SDUC 4TB card entails. Given the high capacity and the distant release date, the card may become one of the first products to use BiCS 9 NAND technology.

The company does not disclose the price of the SanDisk Extreme Pro SDUC 4TB SD card. A 1TB SanDisk Extreme Pro card costs $140, so one can imagine the price of a 4TB SD card with advanced NAND technology being at $600 or more.
