A joke has emerged: plans are afoot in Russia to ban the sale of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, equating the purchase of the game with terrorism (given the developers’ nationality, their ongoing donations to the Ukrainian army, and the game's "extremist content").
This suggestion was made in the State Duma (by the deputy head of the information policy committee), according to reports from Russian media — and some lawyers consider criminal liability for the game to be quite realistic:
“Buyers may attract the attention of security services, and your ignorance will be thoroughly dismantled. There will also be a couple of secret witnesses who will testify that you knew everything — and that’s it, game over.”
It is worth noting that GSC Game World, the developer of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, not only makes constant donations but has also directly participated in developing certain weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine — including precision-guided bombs capable of penetrating the armor of Russian tanks. The studio’s head, Sergey Grigorievich, has also promised to give his Rolls-Royce to anyone who destroys a Russian frigate that “disgraces his name.”
GSC Game World halted sales in the occupying country back in 2022, like other conscientious businesses; however, it is clear that Russians are finding ways to circumvent restrictions for any goods.
Recall that the release of "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl" is scheduled for November 20 — the game will be available on PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X/S, and will also be accessible immediately on the Game Pass service.
