Nothing has prepared to release new wireless earbuds. The chosen naming system may confuse users, so it is worth noting that the Nothing Ear model is an update to the Nothing Ear (2), while the Nothing Ear (a) is more of a spiritual successor to the Nothing Ear Stick.
The announced novelties retain the design that debuted in 2021, with improvements mainly focused on everyday performance. In the flagship Nothing Ear earbuds, the sound profile has been optimized and new customization parameters added. At the same time, the battery life has been extended by 25%. Additionally, there is a new Bass Enhance feature that enhances low frequencies. The more affordable Nothing Ear (a) version is offered in yellow for the first time by the manufacturer.
Sound transmission in the devices has been improved thanks to an enhanced driver system. Both models have the same level of active noise cancellation and can suppress up to 45 dB of noise, which is twice as much as the Ear 2. Both pairs are also dust and water resistant to IP54 standard. The more expensive version of Nothing Ear additionally offers wireless charging and better case protection (IP55). Nothing has improved call performance and voice AI isolation for both models. The "smart" active noise cancellation system adapts according to the surrounding noise and checks for "leakage" between ear cups and ear canal.
The integration with ChatGPT is a feature of the new earbuds. If a user has the ChatGPT app installed on their connected Nothing phone, they can ask questions to the generative AI chatbot by pressing the earbud stem.
Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear (a) earbuds are now available for pre-order priced at $149 and $99, respectively. Actual sales will start on April 22.
