Arun Maini, who runs the YouTube channel Mrwhosetheboss, is expressing frustration that Google has overlooked him and did not send an invitation to the Pixel 9 presentation — despite the fact that over 19 million people follow his tech review page.
The blogger shared this sentiment on Twitter while responding to followers who were curious about why he hasn’t yet posted a review, whereas channels like MKBHD and Dave2D have already uploaded theirs.
For those of you asking for our Google Pixel review…
We didn't get an invite to the Google Pixel event this year. Reached out to multiple different Google contacts and not heard anything back
We were critical of the last-gen Pixel devices, but that
shouldn't be a reason to…— Arun Maini (@Mrwhosetheboss) August 15, 2024
Arun suspects that Google’s choice to ignore his channel was a deliberate decision due to his “sharp, yet honest” criticisms of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. In a 20-minute review, the YouTuber explained that last year's flagship models were not as flawless as Google had claimed — particularly regarding generative artificial intelligence. These features were available through the cloud, meaning they required an active internet connection at times when they were needed.
He noted that he didn’t remove his review because his opinion hasn’t changed, and he still hopes for a reasonable explanation from Google:
“This year, I did not receive an invitation to the Pixel event. I reached out to several contacts at Google, but there has been no response. I’ve been critical of previous flagships, but that shouldn’t be a reason for neglect. I stand by my criticism, which should be seen as an opportunity to improve the product.”
