Some developers had an anxious morning, as a bug in the App Store Connect displayed millions in revenue from their apps for a while. App Store Connect provides developers with statistics and analytics related to their apps. Although the system is quite reliable, minor issues occasionally arise that can distort data.
In posts on Mastodon in recent days, developers reported that sales and revenue data were showing very incorrect figures. Due to a bug, App Store Connect informed developers that they had earned much more than usual, literally millions of dollars. Screenshots displayed revenues ranging from around $2 million to over $10 million.
One screenshot indicates that Apple became aware of the issue at some point. There is a message at the top of the page: "There is an issue with sales and revenue data in the 24-hour view from April 10, 2024, 10:00 PM UTC. We are working to resolve it."
While the reporting glitch this morning made some hearts beat faster, in some cases it can cause serious problems. For example, companies that have automated their App Store ad spending based on hourly revenue may find that the system temporarily increased advertising expenses. Despite the reporting showing millions of dollars, such an error could potentially be very costly. However, there have been no reports of such cases yet.
