Very hungry hackers have stolen data from the French company Schneider Electric and are demanding a massive amount of bread in exchange. They promise a 50% discount for honesty.
According to preliminary information, hackers took 40 GB of data from a major French engineering group after successfully infiltrating the JIRA system. An account on X Twitter, linked to the hacker group Hellcat, mocked Schneider for the success of the recent cyberattack, and a subsequent message in the thread displays a sample of the stolen data. However, more detailed information regarding the nature and scale of the breach, along with the baguette demands, has been posted on the dark web.
If the ransom demands are not met, sensitive data, including information about the company's projects, personnel, and user data, will be made public. The hackers state that if the company publicly acknowledges the data breach, the ransom will be cut in half, amounting to $62,500. Still a lot of baguettes.
It is currently unknown whether Schneider has complied with the attackers' demands. The company issued a statement that does not specify the extent of the breach. Bleeping Computer spoke with a hacker who noted that a new hacking group named ICA has been formed. This group will not demand money from companies that acknowledge the breach within 48 hours. However, later the group communicated on behalf of Hellcat.
