Apple may completely halt production of the Vision Pro mixed reality headset by the end of 2024 due to low demand for the device.

According to The Information, the company has significantly reduced production of components for the Vision Pro since early summer. Currently, Apple has enough devices in stock to meet demand until next year.

Suppliers have manufactured components for 500,000 to 600,000 headsets. Some factories stopped producing parts as early as May due to Apple's pessimistic sales forecasts. Tens of thousands of unused components still remain in storage.

Chinese company Luxshare, which assembles the Vision Pro, received notification from Apple about a potential scaling back of production in November. The facility is currently producing nearly a thousand devices a day, which is half of its peak output.

Apple has also paused development of the second generation Vision Pro for at least a year. Instead, the company is focusing on creating a budget version of the headset. Manufacturers plan to produce 4 million of these devices over the product's lifecycle. Interestingly, Apple has halved its production goal compared to the original Vision Pro, indicating even lower sales expectations for the budget model.

Despite the halt on the second generation Vision Pro, the company may release an interim update with minimal design changes and a new processor. This would allow for the use of excess components from the supply chain.
