Apple is looking for a senior engineer to help create a television and sports app for Android. This indicates that the company is finally moving its TV+ service to a competing smartphone platform.

In the job description, Apple stated that they are looking for someone to lead the development of "new exciting features" and "help create an app used by millions of people for watching and getting acquainted with television and sports." An Apple representative declined to comment.

This move indicates that the company is looking to expand its share of the streaming video market. It is willing to put aside its rivalry with Android to attract additional users. Apple rarely develops software for the competing Android platform.

The TV+ service, launched in 2019, is Apple's response to Netflix or Disney+. The company has spent significant resources to provide it with original content. But it is difficult to say how many consumers have accepted this offer, as Apple has never disclosed the number of service subscribers and its revenues.

Android will become a significant source of potential new TV+ viewers. Android operates on over 3 billion devices worldwide. Meanwhile, Apple has approximately 2.2 billion active devices, most of which are iPhones.

Apple has long been trying to offer the TV+ service on as many platforms as possible and already offers corresponding apps for smart TVs, Roku, Amazon streaming devices, and gaming consoles. However, at the time of TV+ launch, they refused an app for Android. It seems that the time for change has come.
