Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has shared another insider insight regarding future plans. He claims that next year, the company from Cupertino will unveil a new operating system called homeOS, intended for use in smart displays. The first such device is also expected to be released in 2025.
Rumors about a device similar to the HomePod but with a display have been circulating for over a year. This summer, Gurman noted that Apple is developing a desktop smart display equipped with a robotic arm that can tilt and rotate the screen for optimal viewing. In his latest report, Gurman mentions that two versions of the device are in development: a budget display that will offer basic features such as FaceTime and smart home controls, and a high-end robotic version that will cost over $1000.
According to the available information, we will first see the more affordable version—likely next year—followed by the high-end display. Previously, Gurman stated that the robotic smart display may not be released until 2026. He mentioned that the AI features of Apple Intelligence will be a key part for both devices. Furthermore, he noted that the new homeOS will be based on tvOS from Apple TV.
