As a result of shelling by Russian occupiers, Ukraine's energy system has suffered significant damage and losses of generating capacities. The electricity currently being produced is not sufficient for all consumers. Therefore, to balance the energy system, planned and emergency power outages are necessary.
At the same time, calls for economical use of electricity during peak hours can be heard from almost every corner. Ukrainians are advised not to use powerful household appliances such as air conditioners and boilers in order to reduce the load on the power grid. Now there is an opportunity to evaluate how well Ukrainians respond to such calls.
The Rakuten Viber team conducted an anonymous survey among users of the messenger (over 35,000 participants, key age group - 34-45 years old, more than 50% of respondents under 45 years old) to find out if Ukrainians save electricity and how they do it.
It is noted that 85% of those surveyed have reduced their energy consumption to support the system. At the same time, 62% of respondents save constantly, while 20% try to follow saving tips but do not always succeed. Meanwhile, 8% of respondents have not reduced their energy consumption because they do not believe they consume a lot, and 7% of users do not save due to lack of time when there is electricity. Thus, 15% of those surveyed have not reduced their energy consumption.
On the question "Do you save electricity to support the energy system?" the answers were distributed as follows:
- Yes, I save as much as possible - 62%;
- I try to follow saving tips, but not always successful - 20%;
- I do not save because I do not think I consume much - 8%;
- I do not save: I barely have time to do everything when there is electricity - 7%;
- Yes, I save, but only when warned about consumption restrictions - 3%.
In addition, Ukrainians were asked what they save electricity on the most. It turned out that about half of the respondents (42%) save on everything - air conditioners, lighting, use fewer kitchen appliances, and so on. Every fifth respondent (18%) unplugs all devices they do not use. Users also use air conditioning (15%) and lighting (15%) less or not at all. 9% of respondents have reduced the use of kitchen appliances - kettle, stove, dishwasher, etc.
The answers to the question "If you save, what do you currently save electricity on primarily?" were distributed as follows:
- I unplug all devices that I do not use - 18%;
- I use air conditioning less or not at all - 15%;
- I use less lighting - 15%;
- I use less kitchen appliances: kettle, stove, dishwasher - 9%;
- I switch appliances to energy-saving mode - 1%;
- I regulate the temperature in the refrigerator - less than 1%;
- All of the above and even more - 42%.
