The upcoming iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to undergo significant upgrades compared to the current lineup. One such enhancement is likely to be the inclusion of support for the new Wi-Fi 7 wireless communication standard.

This will greatly increase data upload and download speeds. With a chip that supports Wi-Fi 7, Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro models will be able to communicate across the frequency bands of 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz, simultaneously utilizing all three ranges. Theoretically, this will enable the new smartphones to achieve data transfer speeds of around 40 Gbps — four times higher than the capabilities of the Wi-Fi 6E standard available in the iPhone 15 models.

However, to truly achieve such high speeds, a compatible router will also be necessary. Without upgrading the router, owners of the new iPhone 16 Pro will not notice an increase in data transfer rates, as the smartphone will be limited by the speed of the networking equipment.

According to reports, the standard iPhone 16 models will not receive an upgrade to Wi-Fi 7. They will continue to use the same Wi-Fi chips.
