While the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra fell short of the iPhone 16 Pro Max by about an hour.
The YouTube channel PhoneBuff tested the battery life of the iPhone 16 Pro Max and claims that Apple’s flagship smartphone lasted 28 hours and 14 minutes — with over 12 hours of active screen time and 16 hours in standby mode. As noted by the website 9to5mac, this sets a new record in PhoneBuff tests (no other smartphone tested previously achieved similar results).
In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra lasted about an hour less (27 hours and 18 minutes), while its predecessor in Apple's lineup, the iPhone 15 Pro Max, achieved 27 hours and 45 minutes of battery life in last year’s test. This time, however, the test was more "intensive" — simulating scrolling through Instagram and other apps.
For its tests, PhoneBuff uses a programmed robotic arm to accurately reflect the battery life of various smartphones, while the test scenario, instead of the usual video playback or repetitive web browsing, encompasses a full range of smartphone activities: from sending and receiving messages, sorting emails, or browsing web pages to using social media apps, watching YouTube, gaming, streaming music, using Google Maps, and more.
It’s worth noting that the iPhone 16 Pro Max (in Desert Titanium color with 256 GB) priced at 70,999₴ became the best-selling model of the new iPhones in Ukraine following the start of pre-orders (according to the retail chain Allo).
For comparison, the official price of the iPhone 16 Pro Max was $1199, while its production cost, according to TD Cowen, reached $485 (this figure includes component costs, packaging, and assembly process).
