Along with the Galaxy Fold6, Samsung has also released an update to the affordable foldable smartphone Galaxy Flip6. Unlike its older sibling, this model has received significantly more hardware upgrades, although it has also seen a price increase.
In the Galaxy Flip6, the external display remains 3.4 inches and now lags behind some competitors, such as the Motorola Razr Plus. Here, an AMOLED panel with a resolution of 720×748 pixels and a refresh rate of 60 Hz is used.
The improvements, for the most part, came thanks to software features. As part of One UI 6.1.1, the Galaxy Flip6 has received several new widgets and functions for the cover display. This includes AI-based Suggested replies for message notifications. There is also the Photo Ambient feature, which can update wallpapers in real-time based on time and weather, as first launched on the Galaxy S24, as well as Interactive Wallpaper with 3D characters that react to device movement. It is now possible to display more than one widget on the screen simultaneously.
The internal display is based on a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a resolution of 2640×1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The device is powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, specifically optimized for Samsung. The RAM has been increased to 12 GB, and the storage capacity is 256 or 512 GB.
Samsung has updated the camera of the Galaxy Flip6. Instead of a 12-megapixel sensor in the main module, a 50-megapixel sensor is now used, supplemented by an optical image stabilization system. Although the telephoto module is absent, the increased resolution should provide quality zoom. There is also a 12-megapixel ultra-wide module. Samsung has updated the FlexCam (activated when the device is lifted) with AutoZoom, which can automatically frame a shot. The front camera is a 10-megapixel without autofocus.
Another significant update is the battery. The battery capacity has been increased to 4000 mAh, approximately 8% compared to its predecessor. Dust protection has also been improved (actually, against small particles of 1 mm in size) - now the device complies with the IP48 rating. The dimensions are 165.1×71.9×6.9 mm (85.1×71.9×14.9 mm) when folded, and the weight is 187 g. The thickness in the closed state has slightly decreased, despite the larger battery. Like with the Galaxy Fold6, the manufacturer promises to release OS and security updates for 7 years.
The price of the Samsung Galaxy Flip6 starts at $1099 (also $100 more than its predecessor). The price in Ukraine is from 49,999 UAH. The device is available in silver-gray, yellow, blue, and mint colors.
