Alongside the standard Pixel 9, Google also unveiled the premium versions, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. These models closely resemble the basic version, but they feature superior displays and camera systems.
Like the Pixel 9, the Pixel 9 Pro boasts a 6.3-inch OLED display, though with a higher resolution of 2856x1280 pixels. In contrast, the Pixel 9 Pro XL is equipped with a 6.8-inch display that has a resolution of 2992x1344 pixels. Both models have a refresh rate of 120 Hz. They come with an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.
Both devices are powered by the Tensor G4 processor, which includes a primary Cortex-X4 core, three high-performance A720 cores, and four energy-efficient A520 cores, complemented by a Mali-G715 GPU. This chipset is paired with 16 GB of RAM, enabling the local operation of the Gemini Nano AI model with multimodal capabilities. Users can choose storage configurations of 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB.
The Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL feature Satellite SOS functionality, allowing users to connect with emergency services via satellite in areas where mobile networks are limited or unavailable by linking to low-Earth orbit satellites. This service is available at no additional cost for the first two years on Pixel devices and is not restricted by carrier limitations.
The upgraded camera setup is identical across both models. It includes a main 50-megapixel sensor, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, and an enhanced 48-megapixel telephoto sensor with 5x optical zoom capability. It can also provide 30x hybrid zoom. The front camera has been upgraded to a 42-megapixel sensor, replacing the 10.5-megapixel sensor found in the Pixel 8 Pro.
The differences between the models are evident in their sizes and battery capacities. The Pixel 9 Pro is equipped with a 4700 mAh battery, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL features a larger 5060 mAh battery. For the first time in the Pixel lineup, fast charging is implemented at 45W, allowing the battery to charge from 0% to 70% in just 30 minutes.
The starting price for the Pixel 9 Pro is $999, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL starts at $1099. Pre-orders are available starting today. The Pixel 9 Pro is set to ship beginning August 22, while shipping details for the Pixel 9 Pro XL are yet to be announced. The Pro models come with a one-year subscription to Google One AI Premium, which includes enhanced access to Gemini, Gemini in Gmail and Docs, as well as 2 TB of Google Cloud storage.
