During the Made by Google 2024 presentation, the tech giant unveiled its latest line of smartphones, the Pixel 9. In addition to introducing the foldable Pixel 9 Fold Pro, the company showcased a broader variety of traditional slab-style devices.

The base model, Pixel 9, features a 6.3-inch OLED display with an FHD+ resolution (2424x1080 pixels) and a 120 Hz refresh rate. The display brightness has increased by 35%, now reaching 2700 nits. Google has replaced the optical fingerprint scanner with a more reliable ultrasonic solution.

The device is powered by the Tensor G4 processor, which includes a main Cortex-X4 core, three performance-oriented A720 cores, and four energy-efficient A520 cores. The chipset also boasts a more efficient Exynos 5400 modem, while the graphics core remains unchanged from last year's model — Mali-G715 (albeit with a higher clock speed). A significant upgrade from last year's Pixel 8 is the RAM subsystem—now featuring 12 GB instead of 8 GB, which is essential for running AI functions on the device. Storage options are available in 128 GB and 256 GB variants.

The new Pixel 9 model comes with significantly enhanced cameras. The main rear camera is dual-lens; in addition to the 50-megapixel primary sensor, there's now a 48-megapixel (up from 12 MP last year) ultra-wide sensor that supports macro photography. The 10.5-megapixel front camera finally includes autofocus.

The battery capacity has slightly increased to 4700 mAh. Google claims this is sufficient for 24 hours of usage, and in Extreme Battery Saver mode, it can last up to 100 hours. Fast charging can restore 55% of the battery in just 30 minutes.

The starting price for the Pixel 9 is $799 for the 128 GB storage version. Users can choose from multiple body colors: Porcelain, Winter Green, Peony, and Obsidian. Pre-orders open today, with actual shipments starting on August 22.
