Next time you send a message to a creator on Instagram, be aware that you might be conversing with artificial intelligence.
Meta is gradually launching AI Studio on Instagram — a toolkit that will allow influencers, among other things, to create their own AI persona to respond to fans on their behalf.
Currently, the tool is available only to creators in the United States, but it will be expanded to other countries in the future.
According to Meta, artificial intelligence aims to address the "long-standing issue" faced by users with numerous followers who struggle to reply to everyone daily. Creators can utilize their own comments, captions, Reels transcripts, as well as any special instructions or links to make the chatbot a "reflection of themselves."
Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg mentioned in a recent interview with Bloomberg that eventually, the company's apps could host “hundreds of millions” of AI bots created by creators. However, it's uncertain whether Instagram users will be genuinely interested in interacting with AI versions of their favorite creators. Previously, Meta tested chatbots embodying personas of celebrities like Snoop Dogg and Kendall Jenner, but the results of those interactions were disappointing.
