One forward-thinking PlayStation fan discovered a way to combat the rising costs of PS Plus by spending $2000 to extend their subscription until 2048.
On Reddit (via IGN), a user wrote that they intend to play for the rest of their life, and paying in advance will save them money while avoiding "absurd price hikes."
The PS Plus Essential subscription costs $79.99 a year in the gamer’s region, so they spent about $1919.76 to extend it for 24 years. Subsequently, Sony kindly offered the player an 89% discount for upgrading to Premium through a peculiar loophole for just $199.99 (bringing the total to $2119).
While the gamer faced mostly ridicule in the comments, some acknowledged their logic as subscription prices are increasing everywhere. The last price increase for PS Plus by Sony was in September 2023, when the cost rose from $59.99 to $79.99 for the basic tier.
"This price adjustment will allow us to continue offering high-quality games and additional benefits for your PlayStation Plus subscription service," the statement read.
At that time, Sony noted that the price increase was "inevitable" and the company had to adapt to market conditions.
