User Reddit under the nickname cponica23 has already received their first Copilot+ PC, namely the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge with a Snapdragon X Elite processor. The happy owner took some time to conduct tests and the results were interesting.
When Qualcomm demonstrated its new chips for PCs with Windows, it promised quite impressive results in Geekbench, for example, around 3000 in single-core tests and over 15,000 in multi-core tests. In fact, the tested model with the Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100 scored 1841 in single-core test and 11,537 in multi-core, which is far from the promised values. For reference, this is less than the Apple A14 processors from 2020.
It turned out that the processor works at a maximum frequency of 2.5 GHz, again, far from the promised 3.4 GHz for the X1E-78-100 model. This may explain why the processor does not reach the promised level of performance. The assumption is that Samsung reduces the processor frequency to achieve better battery life. However, the NPU was not tested.
As for battery life, according to the initial test, the system allows to last a whole day. But the Apple MacBook Air based on the M2 chip, which Microsoft is trying to beat, still shows better results.
"The first impressions are good, not at the level of the MBA M2, but much better than the Zenbook Duo with Core Ultra 9 185H, which uses only one screen. ZDuo had to be connected around 17/18 o'clock, this one works until 10 p.m. You can definitely count on a full day of battery life."
cponica23 also tested the laptop in games, using Resident Evil Village. At Medium graphics quality settings with FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) in performance mode for 1080p resolution, the game delivered between 40 to 50 frames per second with serious frame drops. Despite Qualcomm's claims that Snapdragon X chips should be capable of running demanding games, Copilot+ computers are currently more suited for simple casual games.
Official shipments of Copilot+ PC systems will begin on June 18. After that, expect the release of more detailed reviews of various models.
