A leak of files from Blizzard's servers suggests a potential announcement for a remastered version of Warcraft II during the celebration of the franchise's 30th anniversary.
The publication Techspot reports that the WoWhead portal initially discovered files on the developer's servers titled Warcraft II: Remastered Internal Alpha, along with a new logo for the game. Subsequently, insider Stiven shared concept art for the upcoming project on the social media platform X (Twitter). The images depict Commander Anduin Lothar engaged in a naval battle against orcs, whose design adheres to that of the original game.

The gaming community has reacted with mixed feelings to the news, given their previous experience with Warcraft III: Reforged. The remaster released in 2020 launched without some of the original's features and rendered online play of the classic version impossible. âLet them fix the issues in Reforged first before starting new projects,â commented Reddit users.
Another well-known insider, Marlamin confirmed the authenticity of the leak. There has been no official word from Blizzard as of yet.
- Warcraft II is a cult real-time strategy game released in 1995 by Blizzard Entertainment. The game features two opposing factionsâthe Alliance of Humans and the Horde of Orcsâcompeting for control over the fantasy world of Azeroth. Warcraft II introduced naval battles, aerial units, and expanded the universe with new races.
- The game received the Beyond the Dark Portal expansion and is considered one of the most influential titles in the RTS genre. Many basic mechanics found in Warcraft II were later utilized in StarCraft and Warcraft III.
- The project was commercially successful, with sales exceeding 2 million copies within the first two years.
