Someone from the state of Georgia, USA, was selling a 1998 "Tesla Cybertruck" on Facebook Marketplace for $5,800. Elon Musk would be very surprised, but the vehicle has no connection to his company.
The listing states that the "Cybertruck" has over 362,000 km (225,000 miles) on the odometer. This is unlikely for a genuine Cybertruck, which began sales only on November 30, 2023.
Of course, in 1998, Tesla wasn't even a concept. The company's first model was the Roadster, which debuted in 2008—ten years later. However, the truth is that the vehicle being sold is not a Cybertruck at all.
It is actually a Mitsubishi L200 that has been modified to resemble the Cybertruck more closely. The L200 model featured a 2.4-liter fuel-injected engine producing 147 hp. The vehicle could be purchased with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission and was available with rear-wheel drive.
The body was altered in such a way that the pickup took on a triangular shape similar to the silhouette of the Tesla Cybertruck. There are no reports regarding Elon Musk's reaction to such a blatant infringement of copyright.
