The newly appointed CEO of Logitech, Hanneke Faber, states that the company is developing a computer mouse designed for “infinite” use.

In an interview with The Verge, Faber mentioned that this mouse is “not necessarily too far away,” and its “durability” would be supported by subscription-based software updates.

The Logitech CEO has already seen a concept that was “a bit heavier” than typical models.

“... I don’t plan to throw away my watch. So why would I throw out a mouse or keyboard if it's a mouse of fantastic quality with a good design and software? An everlasting mouse is one of the things we aim to achieve,” Faber stated

Faber's interviewer, The Verge's editor-in-chief Nilay Patel, speculated that the “everlasting mouse” could be priced at $200. This price point is significantly higher than standard models, potentially limiting its audience to professionals or enthusiasts.

On the other hand, the hardware cost of the mouse could be subsidized through the subscription, but customers would still need to be convinced to use the software to manage the mouse. The constant need to run peripheral software might become a drawback, as it could “consume computer resources.” Customers have previously expressed concerns about Logitech adding a ChatGPT launcher to their peripherals.
